The presenter learned from audience feedback on their music video. The 16-19 year old audience mostly rated it 7/10 and enjoyed how the shots matched the music and showed emotion realistically. Feedback helped the presenter see what worked well and improve issues like color correction and transition usage. The presenter concluded feedback is valuable for evaluating their work and learning to attract their target audience.
3. Age Group of Audience – 16-19 Year Olds. Gender of Audience – What does this audience represent? This age group is some of the target audience for the music genres of Pop , Folk and Acoustic which are the genres that my chosen artists are within; Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Having a mixed gender audience was what I was aiming for as the target audience for my chosen song and artists is mixed gender. Audience Information
4. Is this my target audience? This audience is part of my target audience, my target audience being 12-45 year olds. Because I did a duet of artists there was more variety of genre and this made the genres more varied considering the age groups and difference in audience. I was unable to gather feedback from the older age group as during my editing and final stages of the product I was surrounded with the 16-19 age group. I feel that therefore if I could change the way that I had prepared for this section of the evaluation I would make sure to seek feedback from an older age group of audience to receive the suggestions and comments from the wider target audience; to enable a more successful form of feedback to benefit my evaluative skills and to perhaps change certain factors within my final product of the Music Video. … .Continued
5. Comments Made There were comments made from the audience about certain factors that they liked, here are a few: “ The shots work well with the music” “ I thought the male character was realistic” “ Showed the emotion in the song” “ Lip syncing was perfect” All of these comments helped me to evaluate the success of my product. I feel that through these comments I can recognise the factors that worked well for my choice of song and mise en scene. I can see that I had made the emotions show through by using specific shots as a few of the audience could see the emotion I was trying to portray; this was likely to be through the use of Close-Up shots showing emotion and facial expressions. I can also tell that the audience thought it was a realistic product as they had commented on the actors skills and also the lip-syncing.
8. How did it make the Audience feel? I have made a data graph of how the audience felt from watching the Music Video, as this was given as a question within the Feedback Forms. Here is the graph: These are the emotions I was hoping and expecting for as the song is about love and I wanted to show ‘Love’ through the shots with mise en scene that represented this emotion. Love can be felt through a variety of emotions such as happiness, sadness and relaxation; these were the emotions shown therefore I feel I have portrayed the connotations in the correct manner. … .Continued
9. Suggestions made When preparing my feedback forms I did not include a questions or a space for any suggestions to be made although I included the question: ‘Is there anything you disliked about the video?’ With this question the audience can give their feedback and it will allow me to interpret this into suggestions. Some examples of this would be: Dislike – The Duck shot – I then understood that this person did not like this shot therefore I watched through this particular shot and asked other audience members what their thoughts are on this aspect and proceeded with changes. The audience may also have been unaware of Jason Mraz’s and Colbie Caillat’s style of Music Videos because within their videos they use many nature shots with animals and buildings. Dislike – Overuse of Cross Dissolve edit – I watched over the edits that I had made with video transitions by using Final Cut Pro and made sure the video flowed nicely, with realistic transitions. When watching over my chosen artist’s videos they had used many fade in and fade out transitions also therefore this type of edit was the aim of my product. … .Continued
11. Changes Made….. Through suggestions and comments I made changes as I was editing and after the final product was made and I had received feedback forms. When viewing my own product I understood that there may be certain aspects that I couldn’t see or I was unaware of whereas when the audience watch it they can notice mistakes; be it small or big. This is why feedback forms are a helpful tool when evaluating. Some changes that I had made due to people’s comments and through others viewing my product were: Colour Correction – When filming I wanted the connotations of a summers day and unfortunately the season was autumn, through audience watching my video I had the benefit of people making suggestions to improve the overall outcome of my product. The audience suggested that I use the colour corrector aspect of Final Cut Pro editing software to enhance the colours of each shot. This made my video look even better and had the connotations of a spring/summer day. Video Transitions – When editing I was unaware of video transitions and filter and therefore when having audience watch through my editing I had comments about use of video transitions such as fade in and out shots. This helped to improve my music video as it had more of a realistic look and used conventions of real media example. Length of Shots – During the editing stage I had to film repeatedly as I did not have enough footage and because when people watched my music video they commented on how long some of my shots were. Therefore giving my video a boost to look more realistic.
12. Here, the shot almost looks black and white through colour, with a very dull atmosphere. Here I have edited the shot through colour correction and the shot looks much brighter and vibrant.
13. My Thoughts! What I could change now with the feedback? With the feedback forms I have now been able to evaluate how successful my music video was and how realistic it looked to the audience. Overall I feel that there are aspects I could change and make better if I had more time to do so although the outcome of the video seems to be on a good level; with people that dislike my chosen genre rating it with a high outcome. If I was to change anything now it would be to have a variety of video transitions and not just sticking to the Cross Dissolve edit. I feel this would make my music video look more authentic and would benefit the music video. Positive and Negative I feel as though receiving a mixture of feedback comments has helped me to evaluate and measure the outcome of my Music Video. I believe that having a mixed gender audience helped to create different views of ‘Love’ and the emotions that they felt when watching my product. The only negative outcome was that I was unable to receive any feedback from the older age groups of the target audience.
14. What have I learned? I have learned that by presenting my Music Video to some of my target audience I have been given positive feedback showing that they saw the same representations and conventions being used within a ‘real’ music video within this genre and within my production. I must have used similar mise en scene and representations because the audience did not give any negative feedback on the realism of the Music Video. This shows me that my research and planning took a role in the outcome of my Music Video. I researched the typical mise en scene to be seen and found within the genres of ‘Pop’, ‘Folk’ and ‘Acoustic’. I have learnt that by paying particular attention on the mise en scene and editing of the shots you will attract the specific target audience as they can relate to the way the Music Video has been produced. I have also learnt that through working on the editing software I could manipulate the shots to give them a more realistic theme as the audience commented on the perfected lip-syncing, realistic actors and the use of Over Head Projector images making the music video look more high budget and professional.
